We set out early this morning to Coronado. To get there, we drove over the long bridge and had a look at all the docked boats and ships. This area holds one of the last shipyards on the West coast.
This was our first visit to any dog beach with our dogs. There were dozens and dozens of other dogs, some running into the water, others frolicking in the sand. Many were enormous but all were friendly.
Both Maggie and Velma had a blast. The weather was perfect and started to feel just a little too warm as we headed back to the car. Great timing.
The dog beach is near a naval base, so there is a kind of fencing to keep the general public from getting too close.
We walked up to this structure.
Even the sands of California are lined with gold!
Not sure if it is Mica, but there was a glittering, gold-like spread across the beach. The star of the day was definitely Velma. She raced like a greyhound across the beach to join other dogs in pursuit of a ball. Very athletic and very impressive little girl.
The dog was a champion frisbee catcher.
Another terrier, a Jack Russell mix, says hello to Maggie. She did just fine, even with the bigger dogs, who seemed especially gentle around her. I read somewhere that older dogs usually know when it's a puppy and how to be gentle around young dogs. Maggie would sit still, sometimes wagging her tail and sometimes squeaking loudly if she got too scared. Next time, we will take a ball for them to chase.
